Youth

We are concentrating on building compassionate youth in our congregation through service and fellowship.  Our youth are learning how great it feels to give their time, skills, and heart to other people.

Year long Ministries

  • Junior high confirmation classes.  6th, 7th, and 8th graders learning about their faith.  Youth learn what it means to be Lutheran.  Subjects include: Small Catechism, Lord’s Prayer, Apostle’s Creed, Baptism, 10 Commandments and Holy Communion.
  • Senior High BUZZ Session.  Bi weekly events for 9-12th graders anchored in scripture, discussion, small groups, service, food, and fellowship.

Retreat Ministry

  • 6Th Grade Retreat:         Early fall each year concentrating on Baptism
  • 7th – 8th Grade Retreat:  Late fall each year concentrating on elements of the Small Catechism
  • 8th grade Retreat:            Spring of each year concentrating on being a lifelong disciple of Jesus

All of these retreats are held at our Synod ELCA Lutheran Camp Chrysalis in Kerrville.  These retreats allow our young people to get away and concentrate on subject of the event.  It also enables them to get to know each other better and make our church family stronger.

Synod Events

  • Senior High Synod Youth Gathering in Austin Texas, December every year
  • Junior High Synod Youth Gathering at Camp Chrysalis, November every year

Junior and Senior high summer events

  • Junior high attend Confirmation camp every summer.  Camp is normally in June.
  • Senior high youth have summer mission trips or other summer trips depending on the availability (National Youth Gathering)

We have service and fellowship activities for junior and senior high youth throughout the year.  These events range from Christmas toy drives to church basketball leagues.  All youth events are posted in the church monthly newsletter and the weekly bulletins.  The youth also get postcards in the mail and hear announcements at weekly events.

APLC is a great place to raise a family.  Our congregation offers a number of ministries for all ages.

Call Committee Update July 2010
Call Committee Recommends Candidate for Senior Pastor edit

Come and meet the new APLC senior pastor candidate!

The Call Committee is recommending a candidate for call and has extended an invitation for him to come preach and give APLC the opportunity to meet him and his family.

He will preach on Saturday, July 31st at 5:30 PM, and Sunday, August 1st at both 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM services. Between services Sunday, August 1st at 9:45 AM, there will be a town hall meeting in the sanctuary to introduce the candidate and allow for questions from the congregation.

After the 11:00 AM service there will be a pot luck luncheon and reception for the candidate and his family in the gym. The church will provide drinks and paper goods. Members are asked to bring main course, side dishes, or desserts of your choosing.

There will be a Congregational Meeting Sunday, August 8th, in the sanctuary between services at 9:45 AM to consider extending a call to the candidate as our new senior pastor. This is your chance to be heard!

A bio will be available before the candidate comes to APLC.  We are not announcing his name until he has the opportunity to tell his current congregation he is being considered for a call.
